ANNA & THE CHAMPIONS

ANN MOORE:  A TRUE OLYMPIC CHAMPION

Anna Moore was produced by UK toy manufacturer Pedigree from 1975 - 1977.  Smaller than her famous Pedigree cousin, 11 1/2" Sindy, 10 1/2  inch Anna & her friend Peter were totally devoted to equestrian pursuits.  Modeled after UK 1972 Olympic Show Jumping Silver Medalist ANN MOORE, Anna was fully articulated  with 15 flexible joints to allow for practically endless, realistic riding positions.

There were 2 Anna versions with distinctly different faces.  Both versions came in blonde and brunette. Version 1 Anna had large round side-glancing eyes,center-parted long hair tied back in a neat bun and closely resembling Pedigree cousin Sindy. Her neck is marked "0036001X." She was packaged in a sturdy riding outfit that consisted of a golden yellow long-sleeved shirt with front snaps, beige stretch riding breeches, short black paddock boots, riding crop and a black riding helmet. I have seen pictures of a red & white dotted scarf, but I haven't actually seen it.  There is a similar dotted scarf in one of cousin Sindy's riding accessories pack.  Perhaps Pedigree used the same scarf for Anna.

Version 2 Anna had a short fringed bob hairstyle and smaller, more delicate eyes and facial features. Her neck was marked "036153."  Her outfit was identical to Version 1 with the exception of her top, which was now a red ribbed knit long-sleeved sweater  with a back snap closure.  This sweater closely resembled cousin Sindy's 1977 Riding Out outfit.

While Anna resembled Pedigree cousin Sindy, her multi-articulated body was much more like that of contemporary Uneeda Dollikin/Palitoy Action Girl, with visible joints and wide hips.

At 11 1/2", friend Peter was slightly taller than Anna, with front-facing blue eyes and a very-70's mop of light brown hair.  His neck was marked "04001."  His original outfit was a very nice blue knit long-sleeved turtle-neck sweater, beige riding breeches, tall black riding boots, riding crop and black riding helmet.  While he could squeeze into a few of Anna's riding togs  in a pinch, his larger body, feet and head made borrowing her shirts, boots and helmet impossible.

Outfits and accessorites were meticulously detailed and realistic. Anna had 6 different outfits for various equestrian pursuits, including schooling, trail riding (trekking), show jumping, side saddle, and point to point.  Peter's 3 outfits coordinated with Anna's, and included show jumping and jockey silks.

Anna's chestnut horse, Happytime, and Peter's golden palomino, Sundancer, were multi-jointed for realistic movement. They had holes in the bottoms of their rear hooves that fit onto small pegs built onto green plastic posing stands.  While they could be posed without the posing stand, the stand made it possible to position these horses in an amazing range of quite realistic poses.

Accessories included a sturdy wooden stable, which was identical to Pedigree cousin Sindy's 1977 stable aside from the graphics and roof color (red for Anna, blue for Sindy).  3 different types of jumps were offered, along with riding and training tips.  Jump sets included an intricate water jump, a set of 3 training cavaletti, and a competition post and rails jump.

A starter set was offered which included Anna in her Show Jumping outfit, Happytime, a set of jumps, a set of tack with both hunt and side saddles, a riding helmet and a riding top hat

Though produced for a few short years, these wonderful dolls and classic accessories appeal to the timeless love affair between children and horses.
